OFF:
I am going to have a particular naming sceme on the threads which indicated where what happenings. In this case 1.1.1 mean that this is the first thread of the Season 1 Episode 1 timeline. Since the series got renewed this will allow us to do things in a more organized manner. The follwoing thread takes place at Mika's house. It will be innocent get together of like minded individuals - with the Labor day celebrations serving as an excuse to gather. All players should show up. I am going to leave the excuse as to how you got invited to you folks. OOC you all are invited. ON: 0600 - Labor day Mika had started the day early on. His rancher had a bit of a yard and he had insisted to Linnette that this would have to be done in his house because he wanted to say thank you to all of his friends - he didnt have too many of them, his proffession required a certain amount of solitude and detachment. She would probably be the first one to show up and help. He was certain of that even though he had said that he would handle the preparations. Linnette had a motherly instinct at times and insisted on handling certain matters. Which was fine with him. He dragged the coal brickets out the shet and started a fire in grill. He was not exactly a good cook but he figured he was safe with hotdogs and burgers. One had really to try and mess those things up.

Linette showed up at Mika's place 6:30 am, bringing things over that might be needed for the bbq. A couple of tables and some chairs, other odds and ends to make things festive. She was delighted that Mika wanted to have the bbq at his place, as its location away from her home/work place was just perfect. She really didn't want to have work interrupt this time for friends, even though it might happen; for now she just wanted to enjoy this time with friends.
Friends, Linette liked how that sounded in her mind. Linette grinned as she parked her truck outside and made her way to where Mika was getting things ready, bringing in what she brought with her. "Hello Mika."Linette said in greeting to him, depositing her first load, then went back for the next one. As she carried the next load, Linette realized she hadn't gotten anything alcoholic, only soft drinks. Linette wondered who would be next to arrive, would it be Patience, Mac, or David.

Patience had been busy with 'other things' till the last moment or she would have been with Linette, she really didn't know Mika and something inside of her told her that under any other circumstance she never would know him. But now days... she reflexively looked up at the ship hanging in the sky in the same way bricks don't.
She wondered again what the energy cost were to keep that thing hovering in Terran gravity... and that thought brought up the next one, what was it going to cost the Humans that lived here... She pulled into the yard of this little 'ranch'. In Texas they would have called it a ranch or farm but would have smiled at the same time. She popped the trunk with the key fob and pulled out a large cooler full of ice and beer, she knew what was necessary for a good backyard cookout with your friends. Patience was glad the cooler had wheels on it and she rolled it over to the tables. "I have a good stout for Mac and his dog, Corona and other beers for us, and buried deep in the ice a bottle of bubbly in case something needs to be toasted or agreed upon," She told Mika and Linette.

Mac showed up shortly after Paitence did. He parked the large diesel duly truck next to Paitence's, and dragged the cooler full of meat and ice, and another smaller one full of beer out of the bed, and carried them around back. Just in time to hear Paitence's declaration. "Well that's good. Cause were gonna need it today. Oh damn."
Hyde was still sitting in the passenger side seat of his truck, looking out the window like Mac forgot him. Mac whistled loudly, and the big dog jumped through the open window, and raced to the backyard, coming to a screeching halt and his master's left leg.

"Hi Patience," Linette greeted her room-mate. "Glad you brought that, I totally forgot about the other drinks."
She helped Patience move the ice chest over near the table that was set up for the food. "Glad you were able to make it. " She looked towards where she heard another vehicle arrive, then saw Mac arrive with two ice chests, She grinned when she saw Hyde joined his master. "Hi there Hyde." she said and went over to rub his head. "Hello Mac, she said looking up at him. "Looks like you came prepared as well." standing up and taking the smaller chest, from him, carrying it to where the other chest was. This was certainly an odd gathering, a motely crew of sorts drawn together with concerns about the visitors.

(oog just to put things in consecutive order I wove the JP with Mika plus our previous posts together)

"Glad you could make it" Mika said with a smile. He had started to enjoy her company. "Early bird gets...to lug the soda packs around." "Of course, that's what happens. Need to get my exercise in somehow."Linette put the cooler down, then teasingly flexed her muscles laughing. Linette was glad to see Mika as well. Putting her arms down Linette examined the sky, "Looks like its going to be a bit muggy and warm today, good thing you decided to have the barbecue early." she remarked, looking at Mika. "We might have rain sometime today judging by the clouds formations in the distance. Enough talk about the weather, you've got a nice place here, Mika. and I'm glad you invited people to the barbecue. Its nice to get away from the house and work." "That's the idea "Mika said, "As long as people actually show up. I don't think me and you will be able to eat all of this stuff. " "Well, if it ends up being just you and me... what we don't eat it can get put in the freezer for quick meals later. I believe the others will be coming, I had extended an invitation to them. If they do they do, if they don't make it, they don't. The important thing is being here with friends or a friend." Linette said with a grin and putting an arm about Mika, giving him a one armed hug. "Hope you like potato salad or coleslaw, I made both and brought some salad too. For dessert, chocolate cake, plus a watermelon." "Mmmhhh mmmhh mmmhh mmm" Mika hummed and laughed." How are things at the garage?" he inquired, he had not seen her during the past few days "Well things are running good as usual, with the exception of the conversation turning towards our other-worldly guests." Linette shrugged."I am asked my opinion and I just change the subject or give a non committal answer. Not much I can say on them. I've not met one,and don't really plan on it, unless they happen to cause some trouble and its in my part of the neighborhood. Then they'll just be considered scum to be dealt with like any other predator, who thinks they can prey upon the innocent. Well if they cause trouble that is. Other than that, things have been perfectly normal."Linette smiled," How about you, what have you been up to in the past few days? Besides making plans for a barbecue." She moved her arm, giving Mika some space, not wanting to be a distraction. "I am glad I work alone." Mika said. "I would probably strangle somebody if they kept harping on them. Things actually have been quiet, I just wrapped up a major schedule" Linette nodded, "I'm glad you've got a job and it seems to be paying you decently." motioning towards his property. "When are you going to be giving me the grand tour of your place?" She hadn't had the chanceto see the place due to their differing schedules. "Well I guess any time really, let's get this stuff going and then I can show you around." Once the hamburger meat and the hot dogs were placed on the grill, Linette went with Mika on tour of his home, admiring the lay out of Mika's home, the wood flooring, bright walls, the leather and brown toned furniture. she linked her arm with his as she toured. "Your home is absolutely beautiful, Mika." Linette exclaimed, taking it all in. Turning to Mika, "Definitely shows you've got style and an artistic eye." she smiled. "There was a definite nice feel to the place and that is good. Never good to be in a home that doesn't 'feel' right." "I have had some help but yes a home needs to feel like a home. " Mika said with a smile. Linette nodded. "I agree with you on that, a home needs to feel like a home. And at times, a home needs to be cleaned out from old memories and ghosts layed to rest." she said half to herself and half to Mika. An errant breeze wafted the scent of cooking meat towards the open kitchen window and Linette looked out towards the backyard. "Smells like the meat is needing to be turned, we better get out there before it burns." Linette commented and proceeded out the back door. Linette saw the familiar car of Patience and smiled, Patience had arrived. Patience had been busy with 'other things' till the last moment or she would have been with Linette, she really didn't know Mika and something inside of her told her that under any other circumstance she never would know him. David walked into the shooting range and set his range bag down on the table. He taped up a bullseye target and moved it out to 20 yards before reaching under his shirt and pulling out his Glock 23 and firing thirteen rapid shots. He dumped the mag and pulled another from a cell phone case on his left side, then emptied the gun once more.
He pulled his target back in and checked it. All twenty-six rounds were within a fist sized area in the center of the target. He changed the target and moved on to his G22, his duty gun, this time pushing the target back to twenty-five yards. He repeated the same drill as with his backup piece, firing two magazines rapid-fire. His group was a little tighter due to the longer sight radious of the bigger gun. He loaded both 23 mags back up and slipped it back into it's IWB Galco. Placing his 22 into his bag and picking up his brass, he exited the range and walked to his car. He sat down and pulled a slip of paper out of the glovebox. It was directions to a party Linette had invited him to. Half an hour later... David drove up in his '76 Corvette. He and his father had restored the car together when he was fifteen. He turned the motor off and stepped out, searching for Linette. He finally found her and made a bee-line in her direction, grabbing a beer along the way. "Hey" TAG Linette and anyone else. |

"Hey David!" Linette said catching sight of her friend. She went up, giving him a hug."Glad you could make it. Was wondering if you would."
As she gave him a hug, Linette caught the scent of gunpowder " Been practicing I see, I can smell the scent of gunpowder." she grinned. "Which did you work on this morning?" She stepped back so as to not spill his beer. tags
