Sir,

You are hereby required and directed to proceed on board the Terpsichore and to take upon yourself the Command of Captain of her; willing and requiring all the Officers and Company belonging to said Frigate to behave themselves in their various Employments with all due Respect and Obedience to you, their Captain. You are likewise required and directed to comply with the General Printed Instructions, Orders and Directions that have been established below and that you may from time to time receive from any your superior Officer for His Majesty's Service.

You are to make ready the Terpsichore, now berthed at Portsmouth, for service. The ship is to make sail in the first week of January at the first favourable wind. To Proceed to sea, and the location that will be given to you. Hereof neither you nor any of yours may fail as you will answer the contrary at your Peril. And for so doing this shall be your Order.

The Terpsichore is to be made ready for sea, including restocking and re-crewing her.

Almost all the standing Officers, petty Officers, Warrant Officers, and crew have to be replaced. What crew and officer we can't get to join PC (player character) will be made up with NPC (non-player characters)

This mission will be ended when we reach South of 8' latitude.

Just curious, what is happening (or going to happen) with the current scene? From what I can tell Terpsichore has left port but seemingly anchored a short distance from the docks. Was this just a maneuver to test the crew? Is our anchored state going to be the way of things, or are we returning to the docks?

Among other reasons for knowing this, I'm crafting a post that has a shipment of weapons arriving. I'm wondering if we'll be dock-side at some point to allow for the easy carry of these materials aboard, or if we'll need to shuttle them aboard a small boat.

nope, we are not really gone, just warped out to the harbor.

All materials will come by lighter, barge, or boat.

One obvious reason was to keep the men from running (deserting the ship) They can drop over the rail or slip off the ship in one way or the other, if we warp out into the harbor they have to either excape during a work party, a bum boat, or swim.

I really enjoyed writing the JP with Thomas, he added touches that brought things more to life. I have to say though I am enjoying all of the posts in the story, everyone's creativity is weaving and painting such a lovely tale to read.

It was fun. I find it's helpful to stop and focus on the smaller details of the setting. Taking the time to describe life in this period. I've also enjoyed trying to make this character, Thomas Carson, stand out a bit. He's more outgoing, energetic and humorous than many characters I've played in the past.

I look forward to posting with others and seeing what areas of this fairly unique sim we can write about.

To get some of the other players more involved and interacting, I might also suggest pairing up some players and sending them to do something independent of the mass of people working on-deck. Whether it be retrieving/delivering cargoes in a launch, or taking a boat out to remove ice from the Terpsichore's rudder.

Force people to join the dance (so to speak).
