T'ra continued. "I would however like to know what you expect of me, and what is and isn't permissible aboard your station.

If Estaban Maturin had been the CO of the station, I would have so much fun with that, but Prudence is to literal, to much of a stick in the mud. :(

Estaban:
T'ra continued. "I would however like to know what you expect of me, and what is and isn't permissible aboard your station.

"You are not allowed to run naked on the promenade, it scares the goldfish, you are not allowed to torture or kill anyone on days that end in y, I never allow my officers to cry while singing green-sleeves, and if you are going to show up on duty hung-over, make sure it's hung over and not still drunk," Estaban said seriously.

Prudence will have to wait till morning to find out what she will say at that. But I bet it will be serious and not very fun or exciting.

Old Estaban in action:

Ready Room
(Day 9)
ON

Estaban sat down and sipped his whiskey smooth and mello as he had remembered it.

Kain looked at the glass for a moment, then took a sip of it. It burned going down, but that was a familiar feeling that he had come to enjoy. Who made whiskey with carrots, though? It didn't quite taste right. More than that, why was the Captain giving him more whiskey?

Estaban was enjoying himself, keeping Kain off balance

He cleared his throat slightly, "I take it we're not in here to sip whiskey, sir."

Estaban asked, "Who is Murphy?"

"Murphy is..." He paused for a second, "Murphy is the Marine god of disaster and chaos. Or the bloke who runs the pub a mile from Marine barracks at the Acad. Depending on whom you ask."

Estaban raised an eyebrow, "in the future please don't yell at him on my Bridge." Estaban said quite calmly.

Kain's relatively calm mask of a face twitched slightly, "I wasn't expecting the doors to open yet."

"I understand... but some might think your well... not quite..."
Estaban activated two PADDs on his desk, one was Kain's official record.

"Sane?" Kain asked with a slight bit of disgust tinted into his voice. "Sanity is overrated."

"Well..." looking at the second PADD that looked like a medical record, like someone’s Dr. reports that Star Fleet Captains should not be able to get hold of.
"Some people might not follow someone that acts insane, and you Sir are the Marine Commanding Officer." a little bit of edge came to his voice.

Kain took a larger sip of the whiskey, then leaned forward. "I have been down to the seventh circle, dug deeper than that, and come back again. I am a good officer when it comes to leading and controlling men, and planning coordinating attacks. I am not a good officer when it comes to looking pretty, saying the right things, and following regulations."

Estaban leaned back in his chair with a smile, "Good. I can respect that. Have you met your predecessor?"

"The boot 1st Lieutenant? He said you wanted to meet me first thing."

Estaban broke out in a big laugh, till a tears rolled out of his eyes, "That why you reported to me looking like that! I never said any such thing."

Sheridan growled slightly, "I'm going to beat that snide little Lieuie if I ever see him again."

"No you won't, you will buy him a drink... I don't think he's had that many."
"But... He did take the three broken remnants of Divisions two being battle weary and one new recruits, and made them into a single group that work together."

Kain grunted, "And I will take that group that's inspection ready and make them combat ready."

"Good!" Estaban said then sipped some more of his whiskey, "I don't know how much plush you have brought with you, but the Oasis only serves synthahal and myself and Guen, the CMO will be alerted if you are replicating more real alcohol. As you see I don't think you should have to be dry, but at least a little less damp would be nice."

Kain glared at the Captain from across the desk, then downed the rest of the whiskey in his glass. "Then instead of a well tasting sedative, I should probably get the Doctor to prescribe some real ones."

Estaban smiled the now very familiar smile, "or you could talk to Dorella, and get to the heart of the problem. Loss is hard... real hard"

Kain's grip around the whiskey glass tightened as he resisted the urge to throw it. Carefully, he put it down on the desk. "Have you ever lost anyone, Captain?"

"Nope, just comrades, and people I was responsible for, never... like you, a mate." Estaban's tone softened, he had been pushing, maybe a little to hard.

"Then you don't know hard." Kain replied with an icey voice, "She saved my life and in the end, I couldn't save her. That's not something I'm keen about opening my soul over, especially not to a counselor."

"Good thing Dorella is our Science Officer," Estaban quipped, " actually she is a
psychiatrist with 25 years experience. It's not an order..." Estaban did not want Kain to think he was ordering it, "just a suggestion."

'Psychs will just pump you full of more drugs if they think you can hear me, Sheridan.' Murphy's voice sounded once more as Kain's jaw started to twitch. "Just a suggestion until either you or the CMO think I'm insane?"

"I never said that." said Estaban with no trace of a smile, "If you do your job and don't get anyone killed, that could be avoided, then I won't judge you unfit, you get sloppy and reckless and I will have you under restraint. I'm not trying to be a hard horse Captain, I just won't tolerate slop or reckless."

"Very well then." Kain nodded. Aside from the fact that he wouldn't be able to replicate his own whiskey and would have to bribe someone else to do it, it looked like he might be able to survive here.

"Very well, you look like you could use a hot shower some food, and maybe a rest." Estaban said, he was ready to get to the Bridge where the action was about to start.

Kain stood up, "Then I'll meet the troops."

"Very Good. It has been nice having this little talk with you." Estaban stood up finished his drink, "I hope we can do it again sometime, remember my door is always open... except when it's closed."

"Yes, sir. Have a good day."

Estaban escorted Kain back to the Bridge, where he took the center seat back from Xanadu, but then never sat back down. He started his pacing back and forth like he had been when Kain had came on the Bridge.

Kain cracked his neck slightly as he entered the turbolift. When the doors had completely closed, he let out a deep breath then kicked the bulkhead several times. The skipper was infuriatingly calm, and to recommend the counselor? Ugh. Hopefully, the troops would be better.

Oh wow... Is it bad that as I read that I started imagining conversations with this man and my new friend Burgess? That could be quite a riot... lol
