I apologized to the CO of my first simm for my first post, and asked why she had not removed or altered it or even remove me. Her answer, "It's ok, everyone screws up their first post." At the time I didn't believe her but since I have been a simm CO for more then 3 years and simming for almost 5 I have seen some really interesting first time posting and some 'oh god why?' posts. Don't panic, life really does go on.
So here you are, a brand new character, a brand new simm, a brand new hobby. Don't Panic! You can do this. I will give you a few hints and pointers.
Read the simm, really read it. Not for the story hints and turns but for the tone, your post, to fit in has to match the tone of the other writers. You don't have to clone them, just hit something that harminizes with their work.
JP, if you can, do a Joint Post with either the Game Master or one of the Assistant Game Masters. Ask them to help, if they won't, you might not be on the right simm for a new player.
If your on your own, either by choice or circumstance, write it first on a word possessor, or google doc, some forums time out, SMS does too, and your hard work will be lost forever.
re-read your post, three times, slowly. Work hard not to know what your talking about, view it like a stranger would. Does it make sense? Did you use imagery that others might not understand?
Follow the simm rules. I am on a simm that requires you to tell time and place for your character
|Commander Fernandez
|Deck 1 - Bridge
|Mission Day 2 1402 hoursIt's a handy thing, keeps the story straight but it is a requirement. I played on a Y!Group that you didn't start a new chain. you always hit reply never new mail. Each simm has their own way of doing things, do it their way. Now, how do you start?
They call me Ishmael
Midway in his allotted threescore years and ten, Dante comes to himself with a start and realizes that he has strayed from the True Way into the Dark Wood of Error (Worldliness).
A January gale was roaring up the Channel, blustering loudly, and bearing on its bosom rain squalls whose big drops rattled loudly on the tarpaulin clothing of those among the officers and men whose duties kept them on deck.
A storm struck on the night Laura Shane was born, and there was a strangeness about the weather that people would remember for years.
Start with what works for you. Remember, the simm isn't about your character, your character is part of the whole. But if you put in your part, it will make the whole that much better.
